The art of\u00a0<\/span><\/b>adaptability<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Adaptability<\/span>:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>being able to adjust to new conditions or purpose with\u00a0<\/span>ease<\/span>\u201d<\/span>. This quality is not only required, but\u00a0<\/span>due to the pandemic is\u00a0<\/span>essential<\/span>\u00a0in the\u00a0<\/span>rapidly changing market that<\/span>\u00a0we find ourselves in today.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Adap<\/span>tability<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>i<\/span>s in\u00a0<\/span>our DNA<\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u2013 whether that\u2019s flexing to client\u00a0<\/span>needs<\/span>\u00a0or understanding market circumstances \u2013\u00a0<\/span>and it is what I believe has led Westwood Global Energy Group to where we are today. When I think back to early January, we were using our ability\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span> insights to define how we would operate over these coming months.<\/span>\u00a0We already had contingency plans\u00a0<\/span>for<\/span>\u00a0remote working in place when the virus starting impacting daily lives\u00a0<\/span>of our\u00a0<\/span>team<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in Asia. That meant we were swiftly able to ensure the safety of our teams by seamlessly transitioning to working from home. At the same time, we proactively audited and refined\u00a0<\/span>our wider\u00a0<\/span>global business continuity plans.<\/span>\u00a0This laid a solid foundation for how we operated as COVID<\/span>-19<\/span>\u00a0rippled across the globe<\/span>\u00a0\u2013 we were<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a step ahead of the curve.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

T<\/span>he flexibility and openness embedded in our culture\u00a0<\/span>offered<\/span>\u00a0our leadership team<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>insight into how the evolving situation was impacting everyone<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Experience taught me that being on the front foot\u00a0<\/span>with how you engage and care for your staff\u00a0<\/span>is vital. In 2004, my office was\u00a0<\/span>adjacent to<\/span>\u00a0the Australian Embassy building in Jakarta when it was car bombed.\u00a0<\/span>In that moment<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>well prepared plans allowed for<\/span>\u00a0t<\/span>he cascade of\u00a0<\/span>information and\u00a0<\/span>protection\u00a0<\/span>for\u00a0<\/span>our team<\/span>.\u00a0 After the immediate event had passed,\u00a0<\/span>I saw how\u00a0<\/span>the pastoral care we provided\u00a0<\/span>for staff<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>create<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0a positive environment that could<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>bind\u00a0<\/span>a team\u00a0<\/span>together<\/span>. This\u00a0<\/span>critical<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>experience was applied\u00a0<\/span>to how we moved forward<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>as one\u00a0<\/span>at Westwood.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This situation taught me just how impactful any uncontrollable event can be\u00a0<\/span>on how a team operates<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>But b<\/span>y empowering our\u00a0<\/span>staff<\/span>\u00a0to deliver remotely whilst providing\u00a0<\/span>transparency<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>we created an environment of productivity and authenticity.\u00a0<\/span>From daily check<\/span>–<\/span>ins to weekly CEO updates, our teams were heard,\u00a0<\/span>understood,<\/span>\u00a0and kept abreast of what is, and will continue to be, a rapidly changing situation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>And together<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>everyone<\/span>\u00a0created\u00a0<\/span>their own<\/span>\u00a0new<\/span>\u00a0traditions from virtual drinks to catch up coffees \u2013 it\u2019s the little things that create a sense of\u00a0<\/span>normalcy<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This<\/span>\u00a0has meant we can continue to commit to delivering wor<\/span>l<\/span>d-class data and insights to our clients. In this period of uncertainty, timely\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>relevant<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>data has never been more important. The power of\u00a0<\/span>insight and\u00a0<\/span>data\u00a0<\/span>is vital. So<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0<\/span>sustained<\/span>\u00a0investment into our solutio<\/span>ns\u00a0<\/span>\u2013\u00a0<\/span>including<\/span>\u00a0new product launches\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0our<\/span>\u00a0access to our analysts<\/span>\u00a0has never been more valued<\/span>. Our unwavering focus on delivery and flexibility has meant that clients\u00a0<\/span>remain<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>engaged and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>this provides a strong foundation for<\/span>\u00a0future growth<\/span>. In a period of such uncertainty, feedback like the below from one of the major OFS<\/span>\u00a0players<\/span>\u00a0strengthens my resolve to push our team forward:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
